They say that time spent at the beach is never wasted, and I learned that lesson well earlier this summer. With the shutdown limiting our ability to go out, my daughter and I were anxious to spend time at the Sonoma Coast during her visit here, so once they opened it up we made a day of it. We made many memories that day, but one of my favorites was the time we spent at Schoolhouse Beach.
It's a beautiful setting, and with the many beaches available to visitors it wasn't crowded the day we were there. We took a blanket and just sat on the beach and talked for hours. It was so nice to just share what was on our minds, talking about issues big and small, and not have to worry about being somewhere or doing something. That's what the ocean does for me, it reminds me that I am a speck on this planet and the issues I think are important at the time are really not.
One of our favorite things to do while talking was looking for pretty rocks. It's one of those beaches that is made up of many well-washed pebbles, and there were many different colors. Some looked like jewels!
There were few people but lots of crashing waves and birds, which were also entertaining.
Other things that you might want to know: lots of parking, easy access to get to the beach, and decent restrooms. We probably would have stayed all day, but we were finally driven to leave by hunger. Next time we'll take a picnic!
